“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” When you empower someone, you are giving them the tools, resources, and support they need to become self-sufficient and independent, much like teaching someone to fish.
But we can go a step further: When we teach them how to teach others how to fish, we are creating a ripple effect that can benefit many generations to come. By empowering individuals with the skills and knowledge they need to not only take care of themselves, but also teach others, we are building a stronger, more self-reliant community that can thrive over the long term.
We do this in Indonesia, where many communities face challenges related to poverty and lack of access to resources.
In short, the name “Empower Generations Indonesia” suggests a commitment to creating positive change that will have a lasting impact, not just on the current generation, but also on future generations to come.
The four circles in the logo represent multiple generations. Four, because if you (1) teach someone (2) how to teach others (3) how to teach, the 4th level or generation is reached (studens of “3”), which we belive is required to ensure the continuation and a maximal ripple effect.
This is not required, but we did it so we can assure that we do not break any laws. The law for foreigners are very strict regarding activities apart from tourism. When we went there the imigration of Kupang even thanked for helping people in NTT. An intelligence service agent confirmed that all planned activities are allowed and that we don’t have to worry about it.
In order to have a good legal basis we need a land certificate. The process of obtaining a land certificate in Indonesia is extensive due to the many legal and bureaucratic requirements involved. The process involves obtaining various permits, licenses, and approvals from different government agencies, as well as signing contracts and agreements with other parties involved in the transaction.
We are working together with a team of local and Swiss engineers and architects. The building materials on Timor are very limited, we have to find good solutions to meet the desired quality standards without exceeding the budget.
Teach local teachers before the construction is finished so they are ready upon completion of the construction. Sukirno is an expert for teaching kindergarden teachers. He is also an instructor of Saya Suka Membaca, a Literacy curriculum to take children from the pre-reading stage (not knowing any letters) to reading fluently and with understanding.
We started teaching before the construction works were completed.
Sampling is a critical tool we use to measure the impact of our educational initiatives. It allows us to gather data from a representative subset of students, providing insights that help us enhance our programs and drive impactful learning outcomes.
