Your skills can make a practical difference at EGI. Whether you have experience in construction, a skilled trade or education, you can contribute to a specific task and help develop our school in Kot’olin.
Our team in Switzerland works on a voluntary basis. Alongside this commitment, we employ local teachers in paid positions that provide a livelihood.
The next construction phase is planned for December 2026 to March 2027. Much of the groundwork is already in place. The drainage and access road have been built, and the structural shells of three school buildings are standing. The foundation for the toilet building has also been laid.
We are now looking for people who can help build the toilet facilities and complete the school interiors.
Build the toilet building from the existing foundation.
Construct internal partition walls.
Install plumbing and sanitary facilities.
Lay floors.
Fit ceilings using calcium silicate boards.
Install doors.
Plaster and paint walls.
We particularly need a plumber, as well as people experienced in carpentry, flooring and interior finishing. An electrician is already part of the team.
The wider project also needs architects, engineers, masons, electricians, painters, welders, interior designers, project managers and gardeners.

Building in Kot’olin is different from building in Switzerland. Materials are not always readily available, deliveries can be difficult to plan, and the quality of supplies can vary. The machinery and tools you would normally rely on may be limited or unavailable.
Working here takes practical knowledge, patience and flexibility. You need to be willing to adapt familiar methods, work with the local team and find sound solutions using the resources available.
These constraints are part of the work. Your experience can be especially valuable when it helps the team solve a specific problem and move the project forward.
We generally recommend around two months. Given the long journey and the time needed to settle in, understand the site and organise the work, this allows you to take on a substantial task and see it through. Longer stays, for example four months, are also welcome.
Shorter visits can be valuable too. If you have specialist skills and can complete a clearly defined task, even a two-week stay can make a useful contribution.
We agree on the scope and duration of each placement together, based on your experience and the work needed at that stage.
Experienced teachers and education professionals can contribute by supporting lessons, exchanging knowledge with our local teachers, developing learning materials or helping improve our curriculum.
We discuss each contribution in advance so that it fits the school’s needs and the work of the local teaching team.
